The #1 Product Research Mistake Nobody Talks About
It's not the wrong product that's holding you back—it's waiting for the perfect one.

I see it all the time.
A new seller opens five research tools.
Twenty Chrome tabs.
Three YouTube videos.
Two spreadsheets.
And somehow... they end the day knowing less than when they started.
Here's the funny part.
Most Amazon sellers don't fail because product research is hard.
They fail because they make it hard.
I've learned that simple wins.
Every. Single. Time.
The Grocery Store Lesson 🛒
A few years ago, I watched a friend stand in the cereal aisle for almost fifteen minutes.
He compared sugar.
Calories.
Protein.
Price.
Reviews online.
Even the size of the box.
Meanwhile, another shopper walked in, grabbed the same cereal she buys every week, and was gone in less than thirty seconds.
Who made the better decision?
Probably both.
But only one wasted fifteen minutes.
That's exactly what happens during product research.
Many sellers think more data automatically means better decisions.
It doesn't.
At some point, you're not researching anymore.
You're just avoiding making a decision.
Analysis Isn't Progress
I know sellers who spend six months looking for "the perfect product."
Guess what happens?
Someone else launches first.
While they're still comparing search volume and reviewing one more spreadsheet...
Another seller is collecting reviews and making sales.
Perfection is expensive.
Action is profitable.
A Real-Life Example 📦
One of the sellers I coached had over 80 products saved inside his research software.
Eighty.
Every week he'd find another "better" opportunity.
He compared profit margins.
Competition.
Seasonality.
Review counts.
Search volume.
He never stopped researching.
After nearly eight months...
He hadn't launched a single product.
Finally, I gave him one simple challenge.
"Pick the best product from your top five before Friday."
He wasn't allowed to add another idea.
He launched.
Within four months, that product was generating consistent sales.
Was it perfect?
No.
Did it work?
Absolutely.
The biggest thing holding him back wasn't competition.
It was indecision.
My Simple Product Research Framework 🎯
Instead of trying to score every product on the internet, I ask five simple questions.
✅ Is there consistent demand?
People can't buy what they don't search for.
✅ Can I improve what's already selling?
You don't have to invent something new.
You just need to make something better.
✅ Can I make money after all Amazon fees?
Revenue is exciting.
Profit pays the bills.
✅ Is competition reasonable?
You don't need an empty market.
You need room to compete.
✅ Would I feel confident selling this for the next two years?
Trendy products come and go.
Great businesses stay.
That's it.
Five questions.
Not fifty.
Simplicity Scales
The best Amazon businesses usually aren't built by people with the fanciest spreadsheets.
They're built by people who make good decisions consistently.
Simple systems create repeatable results.
Complex systems create confusion.
Remember...
Amazon rewards execution.
Not endless research.
The Big Takeaway 🎯
Stop trying to find the perfect product.
Start looking for a good product you can improve and launch.
You'll learn more in your first 30 days selling than you will in six months of endless research.
Progress beats perfection.
Every single time.
Lesson of the Day ✅
The seller who launches a good product usually beats the seller who's still searching for the perfect one.
My favorite saying:
"Simple sellers ship. Complicated sellers scroll." 😉
Until next time, keep your listings sharp and your coffee strong. ☕📦
