Target Like a Texan, Sell Like a King
Geo-targeting lets you test fast, sell smart, and grow without guesswork.

Here’s a little truth bomb: Most Amazon sellers launch like they’re throwing spaghetti at a wall—spraying ads across the entire country, praying something sticks.
But what if I told you there’s a smarter, cheaper way to launch?
One that lets you dominate specific regions, test your product fast, and spend less to win more?
Let’s talk geo-targeting.
📖 The Time I Outsold a National Brand in My Backyard
A few years back, I helped a coaching student named Rachel launch a pet grooming glove (yep, one of those de-shedding mitts).
She was drowning in competition. Over 200 listings with thousands of reviews. No way to outbid everyone nationwide.
So we did something most sellers don’t even know is possible—we launched like locals.
Rachel lived in Texas, so we geo-targeted her Amazon ads to Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio only. That’s it. Four cities. All within her home state.
And guess what?
By week two, Rachel’s conversion rate was 3x higher than average. Why?
Because the reviews mentioned “fast shipping to Texas,” and shoppers trust sellers they feel are nearby.
Her ad costs dropped. Her organic ranking grew in those regions. And once she got traction? We scaled nationally—with confidence.
🔢 The Step-by-Step: How to Launch Like a Local
Here’s how you can do the same with Amazon’s geo-targeting:
1. Start Small, Think Local
Pick a few regions where:
You (or your warehouse) are located
Shipping is fastest
Your product makes regional sense (e.g., pool gear in Florida)
2. Set Up Geo-Targeted Amazon Ads
Yes, it’s hidden. But here’s how to do it:
Create a Sponsored Products campaign
Under Campaign Settings, scroll to Locations
Choose “Let me pick” → select cities, states, or even zip codes
Done. You’re now running locally-targeted ads!
⚠️ Most new sellers miss this. Don’t be that seller.
3. Use Regional Language in Your Listing (If Relevant)
Add a bullet like: “Ships lightning fast from our Texas warehouse 🐎”
Localized language builds trust. Use it if it’s true.
4. Collect Reviews from Local Buyers
Follow up post-purchase with a message (via Amazon-approved channels) thanking buyers from that region. The more local reviews, the better.
5. Dominate, Then Expand
Once you’re ranking and converting well in one region, scale the same way to other regions—one bite at a time.
Remember, Amazon’s algorithm is watching. Strong local signals = better organic ranking over time.
🎯 Big Takeaway
If you try to win everywhere from day one, you’ll get eaten alive by the big dogs.
But if you focus on one region, dominate it, and then expand?
Now you’re launching smart.
This isn’t just about ads. It’s about strategy.
Start like a sniper. Not a shotgun.
💬 Proverb Worth Repeating
“If you can win the block, you can win the city. Win the city, you win the country.”
🧠 Real Talk Wrap-Up
You don’t need deep pockets to win on Amazon—you need a sharp strategy.
Geo-targeting gives you the edge to start lean, test smarter, and win faster.
And if Rachel could outsell national brands with pet gloves from her garage in Houston?
So can you.
