Stop Copying Products (Do This Instead)
The real way to stand out—and actually sell.

If your product looks like everything else… Amazon will treat it that way.
Let me be blunt.
Amazon does not reward “pretty good.”
It rewards different.
And if your product blends in?
You’re about to donate $5,000 to Jeff Bezos’ next spaceship. 🚀
📖 The $4,872 Garlic Press Mistake (Yep… mine 😅)
Years ago, I thought I found a winner.
A garlic press.
Simple. Cheap. High demand.
I pulled the numbers:
10,000+ monthly searches
Low price to manufacture
Tons of sellers doing “okay”
I thought, “I’ll just do it better.”
Spoiler: I didn’t.
I ordered inventory.
Spent on photos.
Launched PPC.
And then…
Nothing.
Well, not nothing. Worse.
I got:
Clicks but no conversions
Sales but zero profit
Reviews… trickling in like a leaky faucet
After 90 days, I had burned $4,872.
Why?
Because I launched a me-too product.
Same shape. Same features. Same boring promise.
Customers had no reason to pick me.
And Amazon? It just fed traffic to the listings already winning.
That was the day I learned this lesson the hard way.
🔢 How to Spot a “Me-Too” Product BEFORE You Launch
Let me save you from your own garlic press moment.
Here’s the exact process I use now.
1. The “Scroll Test” 👀
Search your product on Amazon.
Now scroll.
Fast.
Ask yourself:
👉 Do all the listings look the same?
If yes… danger.
Look for:
Same images (white background, same angles)
Same titles (“Premium Stainless Steel…” blah blah)
Same bullet points
If you can’t tell them apart in 3 seconds…
Customers can’t either.
And confused customers don’t buy.
2. The “Why This One?” Test 🤔
Pick any listing.
Ask one simple question:
👉 Why should I buy THIS one?
If the answer is:
“Better quality”
“More durable”
“High rated”
You’re in trouble.
That’s not differentiation.
That’s table stakes.
You need something concrete like:
A unique feature
A clear use case
A specific audience
No clear reason = no sales.
3. Review Mining for Pain 🔍
This is where the gold is.
Go to 3–5 top listings.
Read 1-star and 3-star reviews.
Look for:
Complaints that repeat
Frustrations no one solved
“I wish it had…” comments
If all complaints are already solved by competitors…
You’re late to the party.
But if you find a gap?
Now you’re onto something.
4. Price Compression Check 💸
Look at pricing across page 1.
If everyone is within $2–$3…
That’s a race to the bottom.
Margins will get crushed.
Ads will eat you alive.
And you’ll be stuck playing the worst game on Amazon:
👉 Who can survive the longest with no profit?
(Hint: It’s not the new seller.)
5. Listing Quality Gap 📸
This is the ONLY time a “me-too” can work.
If competitors have:
Terrible photos
Weak copy
No brand story
Then you might win with better marketing.
But be honest.
If listings already look polished?
You’re not out-marketing them overnight.
6. The “Can I 10X This?” Rule 🚀
This is my favorite filter.
Ask:
👉 Can I make this product 10x better or different?
Not 10% better.
10X.
If you can’t clearly say how…
Walk away.
There are thousands of products.
You don’t need this one.
🎯 The Big Takeaway
Most sellers don’t fail because Amazon is “too competitive.”
They fail because they sell the same thing as everyone else.
And expect a different result.
Your job is not to enter markets.
Your job is to stand out inside them.
That’s how you protect your money.
That’s how you actually build a business.
Because let’s be real…
Most of you reading this are:
Working a job
Building this at night
Watching every dollar 💸
You don’t have room for a $5,000 lesson.
(Trust me… I already paid that one for you.)
And if this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Most sellers are juggling life, budgets, and big dreams while trying to make Amazon work .
🗣️ Final Word
Look…
Amazon is still one of the best opportunities out there.
But only if you play it smart.
Don’t chase products.
Chase problems worth solving.
