Still Targeting Just ONE Keyword? Bless Your Heart...
If your listing’s lonely, it’s probably hanging out with the wrong keywords. Time to fix that.

Let me hit you with some real talk:
If your product is stuck on page 7 and your ad budget’s leaking like a broken faucet, it’s probably not because your product sucks…
It’s because your keyword strategy does.
Most sellers go laser-targeted on one or two keywords like “yoga mat” and call it a day.
That’s like fishing with one worm in an ocean full of hungry fish.
We’re here to rig the whole net.
📖 True Story: How “One Keyword” Cost This Seller Thousands
Last year, I helped a seller named Jake.
He launched a premium garlic press (yes, another one of those 😅).
He did everything right:
• Solid product photos
• Decent reviews
• Competitive price
• Ranked for “garlic press”
But his sales were flat.
He came to me frustrated, ready to throw in the garlic-stinking towel.
I asked him one thing:
“What other keywords are you targeting?”
He said, “Uh… just garlic press. Isn’t that enough?”

Many of those had less competition but more buyer intent.

He was losing because he was thinking like a seller, not like a shopper.
🔢 Here’s How You Find Your Keyword Families (Step-by-Step)
Let’s break it down simple:
1. Start with Your Main Keyword
This is your obvious one. “Garlic press,” “Yoga mat,” “Dog bowl.”
2. Expand Into Root Intents
Think like a customer. Why would someone want your product?
For a yoga mat:
• Home gym
• Stretching
• Non-slip workout gear
• Back pain relief mat
For a dog bowl:
• Slow feeder
• No-spill dish
• Elevated pet bowl
• Travel water dish
Each of these is a different searcher with a different mindset.
3. Use Tools to Map Keyword Families
Use Helium 10’s “Magnet” or “Cerebro.”
Look for related terms with 3 key qualities:
High buyer intent (long-tail is your friend)
Low to moderate competition
Search volume above 300
Boom—you just tripled your visibility.
4. Group and Optimize
Take those keywords and build “families.”
Each family should guide your:
• PPC campaigns
• Backend search terms
• Listing bullets and A+ content
For example, if “manual food processor garlic” is one family…
👉 Create a photo showing how your garlic press works without electricity
👉 Include that exact phrase in your bullet points
👉 Target it in a low-bid PPC campaign
🎯 Big Takeaway: Don’t Chase a Keyword—Own the Neighborhood
The biggest mistake I see?
Sellers try to dominate one skyscraper keyword and ignore the rest of the block.
But in ecommerce, the quiet cul-de-sacs are where the money lives.
Keyword families are your traffic moat.
They protect your listing, boost your ads, and unlock that juicy page-one real estate.
