Google Did the Flirting — Amazon Closed the Deal

This candle seller lit up her conversions using Google Display before Amazon even got a click.

Here’s the deal: Most sellers fight tooth and nail on Amazon. Competing on keywords. Bidding wars. Sponsored Product slugfests.

But what if you could show up before your competition even gets a shot?

Today, I’m going to show you how one clever seller used Google Display Ads to pre-warm cold traffic — and by the time shoppers hit her Amazon listing, they were already sold.

📖 Meet Monica — The Candle Queen with a Secret Weapon

Monica’s a 38-year-old Etsy seller turned Amazon newbie from North Carolina. She makes luxury soy candles with names like “Laundry Day” and “Cashmere & Bourbon.” Killer packaging. Great reviews. But slow sales.

She came to me frustrated.

“I’m doing everything ‘right’ on Amazon, Andy. Good images. Great title. Keywords. Ads. But I’m getting traffic and no one’s buying.”

I checked out her listing and instantly saw the problem…

👉 People didn’t know her brand.
👉 It looked premium, but no one trusted it yet.
👉 And they were price-comparing her to no-name mass-produced candle listings.

So I gave her a sneaky strategy…

🔢 The Warm-Up Strategy: Google Display Ads Before the Click

We built a simple funnel — nothing fancy, just tactical.

Step 1: Create a Pre-Amazon Landing Page
We built a one-pager with:

  • Beautiful candle photos

  • A story about Monica’s brand (hand-poured, women-owned, eco-friendly)

  • Social proof (real Etsy reviews with star ratings)

  • A “Buy on Amazon” button that led straight to her product listing

Step 2: Set Up Google Display Ads to Drive Cold Traffic

We used Google Display (not Search, not YouTube) to get cheap impressions in front of her target audience:

  • Women, 25–45

  • Interested in home decor, self-care, Etsy, and eco-conscious brands

  • Visiting blogs, Pinterest, and YouTube channels about candles, interior design, and gift-giving

We ran two ad creatives:

🕯️ Ad 1: “Not Your Average Candle – See Why Women Love Laundry Day”
🕯️ Ad 2: “Hand-Poured. Eco-Friendly. And It Smells Like Heaven.”

Each ad linked to her warm-up landing page, not directly to Amazon.

Step 3: Let Amazon Ads Close the Deal

Once they hit the Amazon listing — already familiar with the brand and vibe — conversion rates jumped.

Before: 5.2%
After: 18.7%

She was spending about $7/day on Google Display and $10/day on Amazon ads…
But because her traffic was pre-warmed, her ACoS dropped and her organic rank finally moved.

🎯 The Big Takeaway?

Don’t expect Amazon to do all the warming.

Google Display Ads are like your product’s wingman — making a strong first impression, so your listing doesn’t have to work so hard.

You’re not just buying attention.
You’re buying context before they even get to your Amazon page.

💬 Say It With Me:
“If Amazon is the date, Google is the flirt.”

🙋‍♂️ Want to try it?

✅ Build a simple landing page (free tools like Carrd or Canva Sites work fine)
✅ Run Google Display ads with interest-based targeting
✅ Highlight your story and social proof
✅ Link to Amazon with a clear call-to-action

Do this, and you’ll walk cold traffic right into your listing — already warmed up, pre-sold, and primed to convert.

👋 That’s the move, friend.

Light it up,
