Amazon’s Got Amnesia — Google Doesn’t

Retargeting is the follow-up Amazon won’t do for you. Here’s how to close the clicks you already paid for.

Most sellers are throwing money at Amazon ads, praying that cold traffic will magically convert.

Spoiler alert: It usually doesn’t. 😅

What if I told you there’s a way to follow your shoppers around the internet and gently nudge them back to your listing — even after they bounce?

Well, pull up a chair, because today we’re talking about one of the most underused (and most powerful) weapons in your Amazon marketing toolkit…

Google Retargeting Ads.

📖 Meet Devin — The Fishing Guy with a Leaky Funnel

Devin sells a sleek little fishing tool called the QuickClip — a gadget that makes switching lures easier for folks who don’t want to waste time tying knots.

His product is solid. Great reviews. Decent images. Price on point.
But the problem?

Tons of clicks. Not enough buys.

“Andy,” he said, “I’m spending $20/day on Sponsored Products, but half the people click and leave. They don’t come back.”

🎣 We dug into the numbers. His Amazon ads were driving solid traffic, but conversion was under 9%.
Most people were browsing… but bouncing.

Here’s what we did 👇

🔢 The Retargeting Revival: How Devin Reeled Them Back In

Step 1: Build a Pixel-Powered Landing Page
We set up a simple landing page in between his ads and his Amazon listing.

Why?
So we could drop a Google Ads retargeting pixel — something you can’t do directly on Amazon.

The page included:

  • A product demo GIF

  • 3 quick bullets about the benefits

  • Social proof: 4.8-star average from real Amazon buyers

  • A “Buy Now on Amazon” button

Step 2: Launch Google Display Retargeting
Once people visited that landing page, they were cookied.

Now Devin could follow them around online — with subtle, beautiful display ads like:

🎯 “Still thinking about the QuickClip?”
🎯 “The #1 Fishing Tool You Didn’t Know You Needed”

We targeted these people across:

  • Fishing blogs

  • YouTube (fishing gear reviews)

  • News sites

  • Mobile apps (yes, even Candy Crush)

Step 3: Watch the Return Visitors Roll In

Here’s what happened in just 3 weeks:

  • 24% of bounced visitors came back

  • His conversion rate on return traffic? 22.4%

  • His ACoS actually dropped, because retargeting costs were dirt cheap

And the best part?

That extra 22% meant Devin hit enough sales velocity to boost his organic rank — so he started getting free sales too.

🎯 The Big Takeaway?

If you're only advertising on Amazon, you're missing half the game.

Google Retargeting Ads let you stay in front of your shoppers even after they leave.
No more praying they remember your product.
You show up wherever they go — gently reminding them what they almost bought.

💬 Say It With Me:
“If they clicked once, they’re interested. If you follow up, they’ll buy.”

🙋‍♂️ Want to do this yourself?

✅ Set up a simple landing page (Carrd, Leadpages, or even a blog post works)
✅ Add your Google Ads pixel
✅ Drive Amazon traffic through it
✅ Retarget the bounces like a boss

Don’t let warm leads go cold just because Amazon won’t let you pixel them.
This is your workaround — and it works like magic.

👋 That’s the playbook, friend.

Stay sticky,
