Amazon Checkup: 10 Minutes Could Save You Thousands
Small problems are cheap to fix. Big Amazon surprises? Not so much.

You don’t need another 3-hour Amazon deep dive. You need 10 minutes of looking at the right things.
I’ve learned something after years of working in ecommerce:
The big Amazon mistakes often don’t look big when they start.
A campaign spends a little too much.
Inventory drops a little too fast.
A listing conversion rate slips.
A product gets a few more returns.
Nothing screams, “EMERGENCY!”
So you ignore it.
Then three weeks later, you’re wondering where the profit went. 😅
And this is especially true if you’re building your Amazon business around a job, kids, or both. You don’t have hours every day to stare at Seller Central.
You need a simple system.
That’s why I like a 10-minute weekly Amazon business checkup.
Not a giant audit.
Not a spreadsheet worthy of NASA.
Just 10 minutes to catch small problems before they become expensive ones.
My 10-Minute Amazon Checkup
Minute 1–2: Look at sales
First, I check sales for the past 7 days.
Then I compare them with the prior period.
I’m not looking for perfection.
I’m looking for something different.
Ask:
Are sales up or down?
Did one product change a lot?
Did units sold drop?
Is revenue falling while traffic looks normal?
A small sales drop isn't always bad.
But a sudden change deserves a look.
Your Amazon account is like the dashboard in your car.
You don’t need to inspect the engine every morning.
But if the check engine light comes on, you don’t cover it with a Post-it note.
Minute 3–4: Check advertising
Next, I look at PPC.
This is where small leaks can become big leaks.
Check:
Ad spend
Ad sales
ACOS
ROAS
Your biggest-spending campaigns
Your biggest-spending keywords
You want to know one thing:
Is my ad money still doing the job I hired it to do?
For example, an Amazon analytics dashboard might show total spend, sales, ACOS, ROAS, campaign performance and keyword spend all in one place.
I don't need to study every campaign.
I want to find the outlier.
The campaign that suddenly spends more.
The keyword that eats budget but stops producing.
The campaign that used to be a winner but is now limping along.
Find the fire.
Don't redesign the kitchen.
Minute 5–6: Check inventory
Now I look at inventory.
This one is boring.
It can also save your bacon.
Check your top sellers first.
Ask:
“If sales stay at roughly this pace, am I going to run out?”
Running out of stock can create a nasty chain reaction.
You lose sales.
Your momentum can suffer.
Your competitors get the sale.
And now you’re scrambling to get inventory back in.
But the opposite mistake hurts, too.
Buying too much inventory ties up cash.
And if you’re working with a limited budget, that cash matters.
Your goal isn't to have the biggest warehouse.
Your goal is to have the right amount of inventory at the right time.
Minute 7: Check your listing
Now I visit my main product listings.
I’m not rewriting them.
I’m just looking.
Check:
Main image
Price
Title
Bullet points
Reviews
Star rating
Recent customer questions
Conversion trend
Ask yourself:
“Does anything look different from last week?”
Sometimes the best weekly checkup is simply noticing something that changed.
Minute 8: Check customer feedback
I also scan recent reviews, returns, and customer comments.
Why?
Because your customers will often tell you what is wrong before your reports do.
Maybe several customers mention the same issue.
Maybe people keep asking the same question.
Maybe your product is fine, but your listing doesn't explain something clearly.
That feedback is gold.
Don't just collect reviews.
Listen to them.
Minute 9: Check your numbers
Now I do one quick profit sanity check.
Not accountant-level detail.
Just enough to make sure the business still makes sense.
Look at:
Revenue → Amazon fees → ad spend → product cost → estimated profit
Amazon sellers already deal with unpredictable fees and competitive pricing pressure.
So don't confuse sales with profit.
A $10,000 sales week can feel great.
Until you discover your bank account didn't get the memo.
Minute 10: Write down ONE action
This might be the most important step.
Write down one thing you will fix this week.
Not 12 things.
One.
Maybe it's:
Lower a wasteful PPC bid.
Reorder inventory.
Update a weak image.
Review a product with falling sales.
Investigate a sudden fee change.
Improve a listing based on customer feedback.
Then stop.
Why?
Because Amazon sellers often suffer from the opposite of laziness.
They have too many things to do.
The seller avatar I’m writing for here is busy, cautious about wasting money, and looking for simple, step-by-step ways to grow.
You don't need another 47-item task list.
You need the next right move.
A Real-World Example
I've seen this happen more times than I can count.
A seller is excited because sales are climbing.
So they celebrate.
Good.
They should.
But then they keep increasing ad spend because, hey, sales are up!
The problem?
They aren't checking the relationship between ad spend and ad sales closely enough.
A campaign that was once efficient starts spending more.
The seller doesn't notice for a couple of weeks.
By the time they dig into the numbers, the campaign has quietly eaten into the profit from those extra sales.
Nothing dramatic happened.
There wasn't a giant red warning.
It was simply a small number moving in the wrong direction for several weeks.
That's exactly what the 10-minute checkup is designed to catch.
The Big Lesson
You don't need to obsess over your Amazon business every day.
You need to inspect it consistently.
Ten focused minutes every week can give you an early warning system.
Sales.
Ads.
Inventory.
Listing.
Customer feedback.
Profit.
One action.
That's it.
My proverb for this one:
“Small checks prevent big checks.” 💰
Don't wait until Amazon hands you a five-alarm fire.
Spend 10 minutes each week looking for smoke.
Because in Amazon FBA, the cheapest problem to fix is usually the one you catch early.
Keep checking. Keep improving. Keep the fires small. 🔥
